The number of Americans applying for Luxembourgish nationality has risen in recent months. This is according to the quarterly report issued on July 1 by the National Register of Natural Persons (RNPP), which tracks Luxembourgish citizens living abroad. According to the report, the number of Luxembourgish citizens in the United States has increased by 5% since the end of March. As of March 31, 2025, 18,004 people held a Luxembourgish passport in the United States, compared to 18,889 on June 30.

According to Daniel Atz—founder of Luxcitizenship and an expert in guiding Americans through the process of obtaining Luxembourgish nationality—this represents the second-largest increase ever recorded. The only larger increase was recorded in the first quarter of 2023, as the deadline approached for the recovery of Luxembourgish nationality under Article 89.

"Although this deadline was subsequently extended—on December 21, 2022—until December 31, 2025, the vast majority of Americans rushed to submit their applications in 2022, as they were unsure whether this extension would actually be granted," Daniel Atz explains to L'essentiel.
The expert had already noted in April a growing demand following Donald Trump's second term. According to him, the prospect of living in the EU is becoming increasingly relevant for many Americans. Current figures from the RNPP confirm his estimates and demonstrate the extent to which the political situation in the United States influences interest in obtaining European citizenship.
