RTL Lëtzebuerg has published an article announcing a new documentary by Daniel Atz, focused on the little-known Luxembourgish diaspora in Argentina.
The article explains that while Luxembourgish emigration to Brazil is well known, there were also significant migration waves to Argentina as early as the 19th century, which remain largely overlooked.
The documentary stems from Daniel Atz’s discovery of this community during a 2022 gathering of South American families of Luxembourgish descent, leading him to investigate and document descendants still living in Argentina today.
It also notes his parallel work assisting descendants of Luxembourg emigrants in reclaiming Luxembourgish nationality.
The documentary will air Sunday at 20:00 on television and will be available afterward on RTL Play, with Daniel Atz also appearing in RTL’s Sunday interview segment.

If one thinks of Luxembourgers in South America, then Brazil immediately comes to mind – there where also the former Arbed had its works and where a number of Luxembourgish families settled. But not only there was there a wave of emigrants. Already much earlier in the 19th century Luxembourgers emigrated to Argentina.
At a meeting of South American families who are of Luxembourgish descent, the director Daniel Atz, who is half American and half Luxembourgish, found out that also many Luxembourgers emigrated to Argentina and generations later still live there. He set out in search and from a mass of videos suddenly came the idea of a documentary.
Apart from that, Daniel Atz helps new generations who have ancestors from the Grand Duchy to obtain dual nationality.
“I heard about the meetings of Luxembourgers in South America. I was there in 2022 and then found out that in addition to the Luxembourgish community in Brazil, which is immensely well known, there is also a large one in Argentina. I had never heard of it, but I said to myself, it is the only time that I am in South America, come we go further and go in search of the Luxembourgish ancestors in Argentina.”
The result of this you will then see on Sunday at 8 o’clock on television and from then on on RTL Play. Daniel Atz will also be the Sunday guest with us in the Sunday interview on RTL.lu.
