More and more Americans are seeking to obtain Luxembourgish nationality. Besides the relationship to politics, the search for origins also justifies this increase in requests.

Daniel Atz, CEO of LuxCitizenship, has helped 2,040 Americans to obtain Luxembourgish nationality over the last five years, on the basis of an ancestor born in Luxembourg after 1815.
There exists a certain number of bureaucratic procedures to obtain nationality and Daniel is in a position to guide Americans who turn to him through the bureaucratic processes. Since the re-election of Donald Trump, requests have exploded: the site has received “around 1,200 new requests for support.”
“We have been able to observe a clear increase in the demand for Luxembourgish nationality after the announcement of the results of the American elections,” he explains to Contacto from New York.
The increase is not only perceptible in the demand for Luxembourgish nationality, but also for any other nationality abroad. “Since November 6, there is a clear increase in people who want to leave the United States,” explains Daniel Atz.

Another point which corroborates the relationship between the elections and the influx of Americans requesting Luxembourgish nationality is the justification for opening citizenship procedures: “I want to leave the United States immediately, or I no longer integrate into American society, or I am worried about the future of my children.”
Already before the elections, some 469 people responded to a survey, organized by the company of Daniel Atz, on the reasons why they wished to obtain Grand-Ducal citizenship: “For 79% of them, it is a question of pride for their Luxembourgish roots, but 56% of the persons questioned indicate social and political reasons, while 63% wish for a better life for their children and their grandchildren.”
Around 17,000 Americans currently live in Luxembourg. According to Daniel Atz, besides the political and social question, “there exists an emotional relationship with the search for ancestors. Each person has their own motivation, but more and more Americans have been trying to obtain Luxembourgish nationality for three years.”
For the majority of applicants, “Luxembourgish ancestry is situated at six generations,” concludes the CEO of LuxCitizenship.
